 In the mid-1950s, when Joseph Anthony’s mother began offering hair styling services from her home, she may not have realized she was founding a family dynasty. But her dedication to making neighborhood women beautiful planted seeds that would grow into one of the region’s premier salons and retreat day spas.
Following his mother’s tradition, Joseph Anthony opened his own salon in 1979 in the basement of his Boothwyn home. Six years later, he relocated his expanding business to then-rural Glen Mills, where
it steadily grew in both clientele and prestige.
As the community flourished, so did the Salon. In 1995, Joseph Anthony's son joined the business, and together they broadened their range of services to include spa amenities and nail, face,
and body treatments.

and Salon nestled in the heart of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, was designed to provide a true retreat from the everyday.
This full-service, contemporary day spa and salon is infused with comfortable amenities and services offering signature treatments and state-of-the-art techniques, all designed to refresh your body and soul.
The father and son team of Joseph Anthony Jr. and Sr. were thrilled to finally open their doors in May of 2007. “For years, clients have told me that the highlight of their week is getting their hair and nails done at our salon. They feel comfortable here,” says owner, Joe Gaglioti Jr. “I’m thrilled to now be offering them unique spa and cosmetic services in that same environment.” When molding their vision, Joseph Anthony knew they didn’t want to be just another spa, but instead wanted to offer a journey of total relaxation to its guests.
This vision would not have been realized without the creative and innovative minds of Woody and Laura Yowler of Spa Visions. It was the Yowler’s belief that “You have more fun and enjoy more financial success when you stop trying to get what you want and start helping other people get what they want” that helped Joseph Anthony achieve that next level of service they so desired. The Yowler’s helped to identify treatments that are unique to this region and spa, allowing Joseph Anthony to separate themselves from the rest!
The first of many unique treatments offered at Joseph Anthony includes the Pantai Luar, an amazing massage that reveals radiant skin through the ritual of anointing the body with warm, rich oils while guests relax on a heated massage table. Two sachets that include the world’s highest quality herbs, limes, coconut and spices, first pass over the body quickly, awakening the senses and then return with slower, rolling movements tracing the body several times before a gentle pressure massage begins. The beneficial effects include deletion of defective cells while existing cells become activated and the production of new cells begins. The muscles get thoroughly warmed and relaxed – a spectacular alternative to a traditional massage!
Also featured at Joseph Anthony are two Dry Float Soft Pack Suites, each offering an amazing experience of total relaxation and weightlessness. “Passive immersion” is the professional term for this almost weightless position which also has positive effects on the psyche and provides complete relaxation of the muscular system and joints. This bed is used as a base for body wraps and therapeutic treatments with creme oils, herbs, muds, haybath, thalassotherapy and more. In the Dry Float Soft-Pack System, the client does not come in direct contact with the water in the bed, as they are wrapped in a thin membrane which adjusts to the shape of the body due to the water pressure beneath them. Between membrane and body, pure and un-diluted product can be applied and guests can enjoy an increased skin absorption rate stimulated by their submersion in water and warmth. Joseph Anthony offers several unique treatments including the Alpine May Float, Butter Crème Melt Float, the Moor Mud Float and several additional services that are truly a treat for the body and soul.
One of its most popular and unique treatments takes place in the Rasul Suite, a “spa experience beyond all others.” Spa Visions was integral in placing this treatment in the spa and was confident in both its uniqueness and results. The “the combination of light and music as one enters this exotic pod supports the integration into this special ambience.” With ergonomically designed, heated seats, this treatment provides an overwarming of certain body areas and supports the relaxation of the client.
After a soothing shower, various medicinal muds are applied to specific parts of the body in the Rasul, a journey which can be taken by oneself or with a partner. Warmth and low humidity quickly dries the mud on the skin followed by several steam infusions.
The room heats slowly and as the humidity increases, the room fills with the aroma of herbs. The mud liquefies on the skin and creates a tingling sensation. Finger bowls – with running water built into the arms of the seats – allow the client to keep the mud moist while rubbing on their skin.
Supported by the massaging effect, dead skin cells are removed and the subcutaneous tissue is tightened simulating muscular toning and metabolism.
The journey ends when warm, soothing water rains from the ceiling and rinses the muds away. This is truly one of the world’s most luxurious therapy treatments.
Joseph Anthony has transcended the typical spa experience with these treatments and continues to offer additional, beneficial services that can be experienced each time a guest visits the spa. Relaxing moments can be spent in the Brine Light Therapy Suite on comfortable lounge chairs while the body responds to the restorative nature of ocean breezes. Blending fresh mist from the brine waterfall, energizing light therapy, and calming music, the Brine Light Inhalation Therapy Room is a mini-cruise to better health.
Guests may also treat themselves to an Alpine Herbal Steam Therapy Treatment. While they relax in one of four personal steam booths, guests enjoy this mild steam treatment which concentrates on the shoulders and upper body and also warms the lower extremities.
This therapy will detoxify and stimulate the metabolic system, leaving guests feeling fresh and rejuvenated.
