Highlight Award-winning Island Resort
Located just off the coast of famed Hilton Head Island, is an exclusive island getaway that prides itself on its historic heritage and unwavering southern charm. Considered one of South Carolina's hidden jewels, the 190-room Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa is clearly becoming one of the most awarded destination resorts in the country.

Its history speaks volumes and long-time residents fondly boast of the island's historical roots and undeniable character. What was originally inhabited by Indians, dating as far back as the early 1700's, this 8-square mile sea island has inherited its own historical library of events from notorious bloody battles and surprise attacks during the American Revolution in 1776 to prospering as one of the few islands in the U.S. during the 1800's to successfully raise and farm the rare "Sea Island Cotton" – ultimately prompting the slave trade of thousands from the west coast of Africa to the island. Slavery continued on Daufuskie until the end of the Civil War. When the boll weevil wiped out the cotton crops in 1916, Daufuskie's economy relied on its lumber industry, vegetable farming and famous oyster canneries. Daufuskie's oysters, known for their high quality were shipped all over the world, but when pollution invaded the nearby Savannah River, many of the oyster beds were lost and the industry never fully recovered. Once the Great Depression hit in the early 30's, it forced many to leave the island in search of other jobs.

Daufuskie Island's colorful history is what makes this secluded island retreat so intriguing. Accessible only by private passenger cruise from Hilton Head Island, who would've thought centuries ago that this pristine isle would become home to one of the world's top golf resorts and spas? Nestled on 800 acres of lush plantations, Daufuskie Island Resort & Breathe Spa has received national and international recognition for its scenic surroundings, world-class amenities and personable service.
